Cross-Training Not So Cross-Chaining?
July 1, 2009
Monday night, as previously mentioned, the ‘Lady and I ventured to St. Ed’s park for a little hiking. I find myself enjoying such more and more, especially as we mostly don’t take the dogs with us (guilty look at the girl who just cocked her ears) and we can get cranking as fast as we like. I’m finding myself really enjoying running uphill on the trails. But… that’s a little weird, right, for a biker?
We quietly talked about it, the Lady and I, our enjoyment of the speed hiking that was verging on trail running and she said, “why not try a half-marathon sometime? that might be a good next goal.” Hmm. A half-marathon. That’s like a half century in concept, right?
Tonight then, as again we hadn’t bike’muted today, I found myself running even longer on our sunshine hike, eagerly looking for the steep parts (still not up to running downhill with my knees feeling the way they do). Maybe it’s just that the weather is so perfect, the sunsets seemingly never ending. Either way, I’m liking the cross training. It feels good in the bones, so to speak. Soon I’ll be obsessing over the latest Italian running shoes or the equivalent. For future reference, then, an activities list: hiking, trail running, kayaking and snowshoeing.
It could be worse: I suppose I could turn back into the vampiric Sci-Fi channel sloth I used to be.

Sorry, you lost me at the word ‘running.’
